You probably have questions—and that’s completely normal. Whether you’re exploring therapy, considering an assessment, or trying to understand whether this is the right fit, these answers can help you know what to expect. If your question isn’t answered here, I’m happy to go over it during a free 15 minute consultation.
About My Approach
What does “neurodiversity-affirming therapy” mean?
It means I see autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergences as natural human variations—not problems to fix. Therapy focuses on understanding your authentic self, reducing shame, and creating strategies that work with your brain instead of forcing you to mask or meet neurotypical expectations.
Who can work with you?
I work with autistic and ADHD adults who are physically located in Minnesota, Florida, or Arizona at the time of each session due to licensing laws. Many are newly exploring their neurodivergent identity, navigating burnout, managing anxiety or depression, struggling with masking or perfectionism, or looking for support that genuinely understands neurodivergence.
Do you treat anxiety, depression, and trauma?
Yes. These conditions commonly show up alongside neurodivergence. I use trauma-informed modalities (ACT, DBT, schema, somatic approaches, CPT, and PE) adapted for neurodivergent sensory and processing needs.
Do you treat OCD?
Yes. I offer ERP adapted for neurodivergent clients, distinguishing between OCD compulsions and neurodivergent routines or sensory-driven behaviors that support wellbeing.
Do I have to mask in sessions?
Absolutely not. You can stim, fidget, use notes, take breaks, infodump, or sit in silence. You never need to perform neurotypicality here.
What makes working with you different?
Many clients have felt misunderstood in previous therapy. My work blends professional training with lived experience as a late-identified autistic/ADHD adult. I don’t just accommodate neurodivergence—I center it. Sessions are validating, collaborative, and shaped entirely around how your brain works.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your goals. Some clients want short-term support; others choose longer-term therapy for identity work, trauma healing, emotional regulation, or life transitions. We adjust pace and duration together.
Should I start with an assessment or with therapy?
Either option is fine. Some clients want diagnostic clarity before beginning therapy; others start therapy and pursue assessment later. We can talk about what makes the most sense for you during your consultation.
Sessions & Accessibility
How do sessions work?
All sessions take place via secure telehealth through SimplePractice. You can join from anywhere that feels comfortable, as long as you are physically located in Minnesota, Florida, or Arizona during the session. Standard sessions are 60 minutes.
What if I have accessibility needs?
Your needs come first. I can offer live captions, flexible pacing, movement breaks, alternative communication styles, visual or written supports, and ample space for silence. Sessions are always adapted to your comfort and capacity.
What happens if technology fails?
If the connection drops, we switch to phone. If the outage continues, we’ll reschedule at no cost. Tech issues are normal and never your fault.
Insurance, Payment & Policies
Do you take insurance?
I don’t bill insurance directly, but most clients use their out-of-network benefits through Thrizer, which allows you to pay only your estimated copay after your deductible is met. Thrizer handles all billing and reimbursement for you.
What is Thrizer?
Thrizer is a payment service that makes out-of-network therapy simple. You only pay your copay, and Thrizer submits claims directly to your insurance. No superbills. No waiting months for reimbursement. I can help you verify your benefits during intake.
Why don’t you accept insurance directly?
Insurance companies often require a medicalized, pathologizing model of autism and ADHD. Staying out-of-network allows me to protect your privacy, avoid unnecessary labels, and provide care that aligns with a neurodiversity-affirming perspective rather than insurance restrictions.
How much does therapy cost?
Sessions are $225 for 60 minutes. I also offer limited sliding-scale spots, and I accept HSA/FSA.
How much do assessments cost?
Assessment fees are flat rates depending on the package:
• Screening: $675
• Full Diagnostic Evaluation: $900
• Comprehensive Assessment: $1,125
Most clients use Thrizer to pay only their copay. Payment plans are available, and I accept HSA/FSA.
What are your fees?
Therapy sessions: $225
Assessment packages: $675–$1,125
Twice-exceptionality/giftedness add-on: $125
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Yes. I reserve limited sliding-scale spots to support accessibility. If you’re interested, I can let you know if one is available.
How do I schedule and pay?
You can schedule a free consultation or book sessions through the SimplePractice client portal. Payment is processed securely at the time of each session. I accept all major credit cards, HSA, and FSA.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide at least 24 hours’ notice when possible. Late cancellations and no-shows are billed at half the session fee.
Autism & ADHD Assessments
Do you provide autism and ADHD assessments?
Yes. I offer adult assessments that include clinical interviews, validated tools, and a comprehensive written report with personalized recommendations. Packages include Screening, Full Diagnostic Evaluation, and Comprehensive Assessment.
How can an assessment help me?
Assessment can help you:
• understand your brain through an affirming lens
• clarify whether autism, ADHD, or both are part of your story
• validate lifelong patterns and experiences
• identify strengths and challenges
• access accommodations
• release shame and self-blame
• build self-understanding and self-compassion
Clients often find the process deeply transformative.
What does the assessment process include?
Depending on your package, assessments include a detailed interview, standardized questionnaires, exploration of strengths and challenges, a comprehensive written report, and a dedicated feedback session.
Can I use results for accommodations?
Often, yes. Many workplaces and academic institutions accept diagnostic reports. Requirements vary, so checking with your program/employer beforehand is helpful.
Can assessments help with disability benefits?
No. I do not provide assessments for Social Security Disability or other government benefit programs, but I can refer you to providers who specialize in that.
Do you assess conditions beyond autism and ADHD?
Yes. When clinically appropriate, I can identify co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and OCD as part of a comprehensive evaluation.
What about twice-exceptionality or giftedness?
I offer a twice-exceptionality add-on ($125). I do not provide formal IQ testing, but I can offer referrals.
